Our Story
The story of Never Out of Style began with a deep love for art and aesthetics. Caroline Thomas, the founder, was captivated by jewelry, handbags, and antiques from a young age. Her journey started in her father Jacques Thomas’s antique shop on Sint Jacobsplein, where she first began working at twenty-one. When her father fell ill, Caroline, along with her mother Monique, took over the shop. Her husband Emil Fonfoneata soon joined them, adding his passion for antiques to the mix.
In 2005, Emil relocated the store to Belfortstraat and specialized in silver, establishing a well-regarded presence for eighteen years. During this period, Caroline and Emil started showcasing their items at markets and fairs, building a reputation for quality and unique finds.
In 2017, Caroline took a significant step by launching her own venture, initially participating in markets and fairs with her unique selections and inventory alongside Emil. This experience provided her with valuable insights into the market and customer preferences, which she later applied when she opened her own shop in Ghent at Sint Jacobsplein, where her journey first began.
In 2022, Caroline’s daughter Emma joined the business, bringing a fresh perspective. Emma’s early exposure to markets, museums, and fairs, combined with her studies in Communication and Culture, added a modern touch to the store. Together, Caroline and Emma continue to build on their family legacy, blending timeless elegance with contemporary trends.

Our New Chapter
The year 2024 marks a new chapter for Never Out of Style, now located at Belfortstraat 27. Our new store brings greater visibility. This architectural gem from 1907, which once housed Emil Fonfoneata’s antique shop, is now revitalized with a new purpose.

The true essence of Never Out of Style lies in the creative and complementary mother daughter duo, Caroline and Emma. Caroline, who practically grew up in her father Jacques Thomas’s antique shop at Sint-Jacobs, specializes in fashion jewelry and handbags. Emma, driven by curiosity and equipped with contemporary knowledge, bridges the gap to the younger generation with her expertise in social media and modern trends. Together, they complement each other perfectly—Caroline excels in arranging displays, while Emma handles the online presence.
